It is absolutely necessary to be prepared when you are traveling with children, especially over long distances or durations. Here is exactly what NOT to bring when traveling with children.
Anything White
White can be an awesome neutral and add a nautical flare to an outfit, but when traveling with kids, pass on anything that can make it look like you need that bib more than your child! Clothes that hide stains and messes are the way to go.
Any Clothing That Will Wrinkle or is Dry Clean Only
There is nothing more disappointing than packing a perfectly put together outfit, getting to your destination, and realizing that you cannot wear it because it is to wrinkled and you happen to be at a place with no iron (think cruise ship or some foreign hotels). Dry clean only? Forget about it! Pack clothes that will look good with minimal fuss. Ain’t nobody got time for that!
Any Snacks That Will Make a Mess
Murphys law applies here! If it can make a mess, it will make a mess … and at the worst possible moment (think during take off on a LONG flight). Some snacks that are safe to bring are Cheerios, goldfish, and crackers. They make crumbs, but not stains.
White Noise Machine/Baby Monitor
The name of the game is packing light! If you have an iPhone, there’s an app for that. By using an app, you’ll save tons of space and weight in your luggage.
Toys With Small Pieces
Bringing toys to entertain the kiddos is key, just be cautious about which ones you bring. Toys with small pieces (think legos or dolls with small shoes) can be more trouble than they are worth.
Keeping track of the small pieces can be difficult, and the last thing that you want is to lose them or have them thrown at a fellow traveler. There is also nothing worse than scrambling to find the pieces as you are trying to get off a plane. Think busy books, stickers, and toy cars. Having some new toys that the little ones have not seen before is also a plus like dollar store buys.
